Dr Karl von Holdt formerly worked at the National Labour, Economic and Development Institute (NALEDI), a research unit linked to COSATU. He is also a former editor of the South African Labour Bulletin. He is the author of the ground breaking Transition from Below: Forging Trade Unionism and Workplace Change in South Africa (UKZN Press, 2003). He is currently working on a book on his involvement in attempts to restructure Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital in Soweto.
