Peak-level Tripartism and Economic Reforms in Developing and Transition Countries: Lessons from the 1990s

This project examines a specific form of participatory governance, i.e., peak-level tripartism. Peak-level tripartism refers to the negotiation of national policies between representatives of government, worker and employer organizations. These issues will be explored through case studies based on a matched-pair research design. Two countries have been selected from each of the following regions: East Asia, Sub-Saharan Africa, Latin America and Eastern Europe. We will focus on South Africa and Zimbabwe.

Research began in September 2005 and in October Professor Webster attended a workshop in Geneva with members of the project research team to agree on a common research design. The project is to be completed in September 2006.
